Maddanahalli works at the interface between sculpture, performance and video art, and has exhibited in India, Sweden, Germany, Austria, China, Singapore and Australia since 1994. His work focuses on issues of identity, culture and locality, frequently engaging with specific sites, places and communities, and involving the viewers as integral participants in the pieces. His work often viscerally contrasts perceived notions of places with the actual lived experiences of them.
Previous residencies include Schloss Solitude, Deveron Arts, werkstadt graz and OMI New York. Maddanahalli often collaborates with architects, filmmakers and dramatists and regularly teaches at art schools in India and Europe. Recent works include “SET/Drehorte” (2013) together with werkstadt graz and “Donkey” (2012) made with students from Mysore School of Art.
