Umesh Maddanahalli rolls a tyre through the streets of Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo, linking this traditional game from India with the layers of mixed heritage in Swahili culture –Arabic, Indian, Omani, Bantu, Persian… He also explores how one’s performative movement in the public spaces can transform the way we perceive them: from a dusty street to a playground, from a rubber tire to a story about migration, diaspora, and freedom.
