Last Tuesday, during their visit in Dar es Salaam, the artists from KUNSTrePUBLIK were invited at Nafasi Art Space, in Dar, to present and discuss their ideas during the weekly Artists Hangout. The main question was: how to bring art in public spaces? What can this bring to the public in general, but also, how can this improve our relation to the city around us?

KUNSTrePUBLIK focuses on process-based artwork, which means that they do not arrive in a site with a whole piece planned out and simply install it. On the contrary, the pieces seek an interaction with the audience –and these actions, these new situations that are very theatrical, have the effect of transforming the reality around us. The artwork transforms the urban space in our perception, first, in our (re)actions, in the way we use it and move in the space, and eventually, it effectively transforms the nature of the site.
